June 8th - Our very first “Mystery Tour!” We had been guessing, bribing, and scheming for quite a long time... finally the day arrived for the 46 members and 1 guest.....
We all met at the sight of our regular meetings (Czar Hall) on a regular meeting day... Once on the bus, we learned that as a tribute to Alberta’s Centennial we would experience shopping and supporting our local towns, and take pride in what we have! Our 1st stop was in Coronation; the hometown for six of our members: Dawn B., Ann H., Alaline S., Jeanette F., Darvy G., and Sherri C. We toured two beautiful yards and then scattered to explore a home based business specializing in collectables and antiques, Heart’s Delight Bed & Breakfast & Tea House, Coronation Decorating Center-Brenda Bullick Has a fantastic selection of quilter’s flannels and cottons, unique giftware , along with paint/wall paper and the local Sears outlet (one stop shopping). Many also visited, Timeless Treasures for great coffee, wonderful giftware and scrapbooking supplies.

Then we were off to Consort for a healthy generous lunch at the newly opened Sand Stone Cafe - owned and operated by Nicole Ball . Nicole had allowed the artistic and beautifully decorated atmosphere of this historic building to be further embellished with quilts and quilted tablecloths. Once again on our way we passed the the town of Provost: hometown of Edna B., Pat C., Janet P., Donna L., Carol L., Emily H., Marj M., and Irene A. to cross the border to visit Macklin, Saskatchewan. “Corner House Quilts,” a beautifully restored home, is owned and operated by Debbie Burwash. Debbie has a great selection of quilter’s cottons, flannels and an excellent selection of giftware. Throughout the day, names were drawn for door prizes but the prize won was even a mystery...you would find out once we reached the final destination. We had been for warned, by trip organizer Vicki S. of Sedgewick, that the day would end with a “messy hands on project!” Once back at Czar we were invited to the home of Carole C. for coffee, fruit and squares and offered an opportunity to make a concrete bird feeder - using rhubarb leaves! What a wonderful day! And what interesting and unique businesses we have available.....right in our own backyard!
